There are many resources available to help you with your career research and the information can be found in serveral locations:

  • Career and Employment Services, libraries, and schools
  • Federal / Provincial / Municipal government agencies
  • Specific organizations, associations, unions - e.g. For information on teaching in Saskatchewan checkout the Saskatchewan Teachers's Federation.
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Computerized Career Information Programs - eg. Discover & Choices are two common ones found in schools and universities. These programs and others like Career Cruising provide you with job desciptions, education and training requirements, working conditions, salary, related occupations and future outlook.
  • Employers can provide current information on what is happening in thier industry.

Saskatchewan Job Futures
Provides detailed Occupational Outlooks on over 200 occupations. Information available includes: nature of the work; other job titles; Saskatchewan specific training paths including education, training, skills and experience requirements and required certification; occupational trends and outlook including growth prospects to 2005; and Saskatchewan wage and salary ranges.

National Occupational Classification - Available in print and on-line.
The NOC (National Occupational Classification) is a classification system comprised of 9 major occupational groups. Information on 25,000 job titles can be found in this system.

Job Futures – National - Volumes 1 & 2
Available in print and on-line. This summary of occupational information consists of two volumes:

Volume 1 - Occupational Outlooks
Provides information on 211 occupational groups, including information on job duties and responsibilities, level and type of education needed, labour market characteristics, future outlook for the next 5 years.

Volume 2 – Career Outlooks for Graduates
Provides general information on education and work experiences of recent graduates from vocational schools, colleges and universities.

SIAST Graduate Employment Statistics Report
These annual publications outline the results of the SIAST Graduate Employment Survey. The survey gives data on graduates' employment status, occupation, industry, location of employment, salary and an evaluation of the training received through SIAST colleges.

Canada/Saskatchewan Prospects:
This magazine format resource is developed and published by Human Resources Centre, Canada (HRCC) and is available free of charge. This annual magazine provides up-to-date information on career planning, employment trends, setting up your own business and other related articles.
